There are all sorts of rules in Design for hanging art and mirrors.  Things like "keep art at eye level", "don't hang art or a mirror too high over a sofa or table", "create a symmetrical balance".  These rules can be good guidelines in most cases, but there are many spaces where these rules have been adjusted, challenged, or even ignored completely with the most wonderful results.
